I am a Brit living in California and I have a 1996 XJS Convertible. I have replaced the headlamp bulbs with upgraded bulbs, but the lights are still not great. I would appreciate any advice. btw, I have the single oval lamps. I have fitted the correct driving lamp/fog lamp switch, but i have not power down at the connectors. Do I need to add a relay?
Thank you
John
depends on the export specification of the car you own ?? foreign market cars are built with different specifications to home grown u.k. models regarding "fog lights" my car certainley has a rear fog light and a front fog light "position" already built into the circular knob main light control i wouldent have thought you'd have to "add" a fog lamp switch on any of these cars ? again different countries different specs??, these cars are FULL of electrical relays and the problem becomes in locating the relay for the operation you require and more importantly identifying just what controls what ! its a nightmare,! the factory supplied main dealer workshop manuals are a series of 4 hardbacked big heavy volumes of information , one volume on its own is dedicated to electrics wiring diagrams etc i have a set but getting hold of them today is hard work and they DONT speciffically cover face lifted models from 1992 onwards , parts manuals are the same they dont exist for facelift cars my suggestion would be to find a Jaguar main dealer over there long established with service department technicians who have experience working on these cars "back in the day" and ask their advice regarding factory fog lamp operation ,its going to save a lot of head scratching and searching around !! owners sites are not the best place for technical info regarding electrics quite often its the blind leading the blind in that regard ive owned one of these for 23 years now and electrics are still not something i know my way round well with after completely restoring my car ! , you wont improve lamps on older cars by changing bulbs id personally stay away from altering bulbs to different wattages and types, stick with the standard ones for the car changing and altering things like these on older cars can lead to electrics burning out and worse ! and definately DONT go near L.E.D. lamps with these , wiring on modern day cars is COMPLETELY different in regard to this type of illumination again a LOT of electrical equipment in these cars i definately wouldent MESS with it regarding lighting its NEVER that simple as just changing to an uprated bulb sorry , they most definately are a "product of their time" and best left STANDARD . best advice id give anyone John to improve night time lighting conditions? is a visit to an Optromitrist ! kind regards
