i have a brand new jaguar front pair i bought in the early 90's when restoring my 1981 XJ-S
back ones went on a treat, i bought a set of FOUR,
the front ones DONT fit ! not enough room, the tyres and wheels foul the mudflap on lock, ! i think thats why there aint any !!
someone at Jaguar had those front ones made WRONG ! never seen any since "driving wheels" is where you want mudflaps they throw up the most road debris! obviously in this case thats the back wheels and you are covered for those mudflaps.
i would doubt any front ones exist anymore again they designed them wrong im sure i wasent the only one who couldent get them to fit when they were available, everything on my car was NEW wings, wheels tyres road springs etc all factory standard also .so definately NOT the fault of my own car regards
Belated thanks, Glenn....and you are absolutely right! We came across another XJS owner who had fitted a (second-hand) pair of fronts and promptly removed them, due to fouling. Also, KWE state that they don't recommend fronts either; in any event, they are well-nigh impossible to find.
Our rear mudflaps are fine , and proper OE Jaguar, so all is well.
On a slightly different note, we had thought of colour coding the black rubber finishers on the bumpers, but, thankfully, our bodyman talked us out of that, citing non-originality and the potential for the paint finish on the rubber to deterioterate. We must have had a senior moment!
id also agree with that one there are several different plastics on motor cars some are made not to ever be painted as per the examples you mention they contain a "wax" in the plastic mixture which wont accept a coating of paint, that happened a lot in the early 90's when people who bought basic model cars with grey plastic bumpers tried to paint on top of them , it all came off in chunks later! because the plastic material on plain grey/black colored bumpers had a wax in the mixture that repelled paint , the next model in the range with an identical looking bumper but painted at the factories was made from a DIFFERENT plastic composition , same can be said of cars from the XJ-S generation black Plastic body parts are best left that way ,when the paint starts to come off which it WILL they look an awful mess !! regards
